pinon and mesquite love...

my mother moved to austin from santa fe last november. i have spent the last several holidays there and it is beautiful in the winter.

two of my favorite smells ever that conjure fond me memories for me is the pinon scent in santa fe at holiday time and the mesquite smell in tucson when it rains.

we are now carrying incienso de santa fe sampler set - pinon, cedar, juniper, hickory, alder, mesquite, fir balsam and a handy little holder.

these incense are a perfect fit for out handmade cedar house incense burner.

since it is not cold here in austin i need all the help i can get to create a cozy holiday feel.

special japanese calendars...

we are happy to be selling two special japanese desk top calendars this season.

one of the calendars is created by Keisuke Serizawa. Serizawa was born in 1895 and passed in 1984. he was authorized as a living national treasure in 1956.

Keisuke Serizawa learned a lot about the method of BINGATA and stencil hand-dying in Okinawa. Afterwards, he perfected the real essence of designing stencil patterns. There are no cut corners or poor quality in his works. Though he always strove for the best work, he nevertheless hated extremely exaggerated work. He put emphasis on the ordinary. This is the greatest characteristic in his view of beauty and is the reason why he was one of the great leaders of the Mingei movement.

i love the emphasis on the ordinary.

the second of the calendars we have is created by artist Shiro Imada. another sweet and simple calendar to bring joy throughout the year.

grandma and her cat...

Thirteen years ago, photographer Miyoko Ihara began snapping pictures of the budding relationship between her now 88-year-old grandmother, Misa, and her odd-eyed kitten, Fukumaru. Since Misa found the cat abandoned in a shed, the pair have barely ever been apart.

there is something so sweet about these photos, when i look at them i tear up...

hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

be curious...

when i think of the unknown i get scared sometimes, then i try to think, don't be scared it's going to ge ok. keep going.

i am going to work on embracing this concept of replacing fear of the unknown with curiosity.

whoever came up with this concept, thank you!

hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and enjoying the cool austin weather...

i love the concept that we are perfect in our imperfections. i am good at seeing the beauty in the imperfections in objects, but not as good as being so loving towards the imperfections in people (myself in particular)...

we have the boards in a various shapes and sizes. they are made of brazilian imbuia and handmade here in austin by michael brozgul of ed wood studios.

old habits die hard...

procrastination is an old habit for me. this is something i am dealing with today and something i want to work on.

old habits can be hard to break. i realize postponing tasks adds stress to my life and the sooner i get the task done i can let go of the stress. when i do this i am getting in the way of my own best interest.

i am going to take a closer look at this behavior and work on not putting these tasks off because i know doing them promptly is in my best interest. they are never as bad as i anticipate and i always feel better when i am done.

im telling myself: do the right thing now and dont dwell what you have not done. act now. focus on today.

i just wanted to put this out there....

can anyone relate?
